Lana Del Rey Covers Donovan’s ‘Season of the Witch’ for New ‘Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark’ Film
The smoky-voiced singer Lana Del Rey has recorded a new version of Donovan’s “Season of the Witch” for the upcoming Academy Award®-winner Guillermo del Toro horror film.
The “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark” trailer was released on Monday (Aug. 5), which features the remake of Donovan’s 1966 hit song.
“I have admired Lana’s music for a while now and felt in my gut that she would run with ‘Season of the Witch’ — that she would use her alchemy to transform it,” del Toro said in a statement. “She is a great artist and has been an amazing partner with us in this adventure. It is an honor for me to have met her.”
The Lionsgate film was directed by André Øvredal and stars Zoe Colletti, Michael Garza, Gabriel Rush, Austin Abrams, Dean Norris, Gil Bellows, Lorraine Toussaint, Austin Zajur, and Natalie Ganzhorn.
Lana Del Rey also mentioned that her longtime partner Jack Antonoff produced the song. The full song will be released this Friday (Aug. 9), following the same day as the film hits theaters.
