Run The Jewels Features DJ Premier and Greg Nice on ‘Ooh LA LA’
Hip-hop duo Run the Jewels gave the second track from their forthcoming LP Run the Jewels 4. This Thursday (March 26), they have shared “Ooh LA LA,” which features the legendary DJ Premier and Greg Nice.
The song of “Ooh La La,” samples Gang Starr and Nice & Smooth’s “DWYCK.” DJ Premier, who produced the source material, contributes cuts, and Greg Nice shows up as well. In the interview with Zane Lowe, El-P explained that he’s been wanting to use this sample for a long time.
“Listen, there’s not a lot of classic, un-mined Golden Age material that hasn’t been turned into a jam, and I have been listening to this d*mn sample for like 15 years. And one day, ask Mike, I was like, “’ I’ve been plotting on this probably for the last three albums.’”
“I’m going to be very honest with you Zane, this is the first one we could afford it. This is the first time that Run The Jewels had a real budget to clear samples, so — look, all I’m saying is that we were able to do that this time.”
Killer Mike and El-P recently shared “Yankee and the Brave (ep. 4)” as the first single of the duo’s new album. They were scheduled to hit the road this spring with Rage Against the Machine—including both weekends of the 2020 Coachella—but postponed their first batch of dates in response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The groups expect to resume the tour as scheduled in May 2020.
